In the two weeks that I was in Haiti, the armored vehicle parked behind General Cedras’s office wasn’t moved or maintained once. Its .50-caliber main gun was red with rust. The Haitian helicopter and aircraft fleet are inoperable museum pieces. The dozen obsolete artillery pieces haven’t been fired for years, and the 7,600-man Haitian military force doesn’t have the skill and dedication to fight its way out of a retirement home....

I used to explain, apologetically, that my spelling-whiz younger sister had inherited the family “spelling genes.” By the time I made it to college I was more assertive. I’d point out that President Andrew Jackson and F. Scott Fitzgerald were spelling-impaired. (At least one instructor responded that he’d never cared for Fitzgerald’s prose style.) Nowadays my preferred answer to complaints is that any lout with a spell-check can get the letter-arrangement right....

A lot of factors led to the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it is very hard to pinpoint what exactly went wrong. It is most likely not due to the quality, as it was reviewed pretty well. The story followed a younger Han Solo before the events of A New Hope, and it was actually a pretty fun adventure in the galaxy far, far away. The story even ended with a hint at what was to come, but as of now it seems there are no plans to follow that sequel tease....

Miles Morales was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe back in 2011. The Ultimate Universe is separate from our universe, the main Marvel comic book universe, formally known as the 616 universe. After the events of 2015’s Secret Wars, the two universes merge, and Miles Morales and Peter Parker share the mantle of Spider-Man in the present day. In each case police submitted physical evidence–typically semen taken from victims–to a state-police crime laboratory that examines DNA. But rather than pointing to a single madman, the DNA evidence has startled officers with the discovery that they must search for four different killers....

With the main Borderlands team seemingly working on Tales from the Borderlands, and this game being set to release in the same year as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, fans of the franchise are getting a ton of content to enjoy. While this is great news for gamers, it means that Gearbox is incredibly busy, and the release of two projects so close together suggests that Borderlands 4 is a fair bit away....

Not a great deal is known in wider Europe about the team from Switzerland’s capital and few would give them much of a chance of claiming three points against any of United, Juventus or Valencia in Group H. The fence idea is gaining support in Israel in the run-up to elections early next year. Exhausted from 26 months of fighting and devoid of hope for a peace deal, more than 70 percent of Israelis tell pollsters they want “unilateral separation.” Some experts say a fence along the old Green Line that separated Israel from the West Bank could prevent Palestinian suicide attacks like the one on a Jerusalem bus last week that killed 11 people....

No one knows this better than Citigroup chief executive Sandy Weill, the quintessential Wall Street guy who clawed his way from delivery boy to head of the nation’s biggest financial company. Timing issues help explain why Weill, 70, announced last week that he’s stepping aside, sort of. This announcement came at the end of A Plague Tale: Requiem’s extended gameplay trailer, released today. Clinton: Increase the top marginal rate to 36% (from 31%) for couples with taxable income over $140,000 ($115,000 for individuals) and to 39.6% for households with income over $250,000. House: Same as Clinton, retroactive to Jan. 1, 1993. Senate Finance Committee: Same marginal rates, but effective July 1, 1993, cutting the increase by half for this year. Many hardcore Star Wars fans long for the “glory days” of Star Wars video games in the early 2000s including Jedi Knight, Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, and most notably, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. While The Rise of Skywalker hasn’t been the critical hit people had hoped for, there’s a lot to be excited about for the future of the film series as Disney has confirmed a new era of films called Project Luminous that’s set during the Old Republic....
