Critically acclaimed predecessor A Plague Tale: Innocence received much praise for its soundtrack, which greatly aided the unsettling atmosphere that was pervasive throughout the deeply emotional narrative. Olivier Derivière returned to score the sequel, once again offering his expertise which saw him receive a Pégase award, a ceremony established by the Syndicat National du Jeu Vidéo (The National Syndicate of Video Games) in 2020. A Plague Tale: Innocence came away from the French award show with 6 trophies, including “Best Video Game,” native gamers evidently proud of what Asobo Studio, a French company, had achieved.

To assuage any fears, Focus Entertainment announced on Twitter that “the entire OST” for A Plague Tale: Requiem would not receive copyright claims, a relief to streamers and content creators excited to play the game live. It came alongside beautifully drawn art of protagonists Amicia and Hugo de Rune enjoying a musician performing, though players can expect the lighthearted mood depicted not to last very long when they get their hands on the title next week.

Gamers will no doubt hope that the soundtrack for A Plague Tale: Requiem is released on music streaming services like the original before it. Though unconfirmed, this seems likely to occur as Olivier Derivière uploaded two tracks from the title, that are unfortunately disabled as of this moment, on his Spotify account. Video game soundtracks have been garnering greater recognition recently, with the Grammy Awards announcing that a specific category for them will be introduced at the event starting February 2023. The only full-length video game album to ever win a Grammy was Austin Wintory’s breathtaking score for Journey, earned nearly a decade ago.

Marketing for A Plague Tale: Requiem has ramped up significantly in recent weeks, with global release times revealed and a steady stream of trailers to help build hype. Furthermore, a statement was released which advocated for discussion of the game but asked for no spoiling, so that players can experience the story authentically. Coming to Xbox Game Pass, A Plague Tale: Requiem is joining an excellent line-up on the service this Halloween. Scorn released yesterday and though opinions towards it are mixed, it is the perfect game to try out for the spooky season.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available on October 18 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
