The latest trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem acts both as a display of gameplay and a look at the introduction to the game’s story. For anyone wanting to go into the game completely fresh, they should be warned there could be some light spoilers ahead. The trailer picks up a few months after the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence, showing Amicia, Hugo, their mother Beatrice and the young alchemist Lucas traveling to Provence, France, one of the few places seemingly untouched by the black plague.

For a short while, things are going well, and the trailer even shows Amicia and Hugo playing some games at what looks to be a fair. However, as many would expect, things don’t remain light for long, and soon the black plague is brought to Provence, causing Amicia to flee with Hugo. This marks the main set up for A Plague Tale: Requiem’s story, giving the player their reason to once again venture across the rat-infested lands of France.
A few clips of A Plague Tale: Requiem’s stealth gameplay follows, showing Amicia sneak around some armed guards as well as keeping hordes of rats at bay with fire. Then, fans get a look at how the gameplay will change in A Plague Tale: Requiem, as Amicia will now be much more capable in combat, able to stealth kill guards as well as craft a number of new tools to deal with her enemies. For example, the trailer showed Amicia using an interesting smoke bomb that can snuff out the torches of enemies, instantly making them easy prey for nearby rats.
From this gameplay and Amicia’s new capabilities, it seems like she will be taking a much darker turn in A Plague Tale: Requiem in her quest to keep Hugo safe. Hugo’s role in A Plague Tale: Requiem is seemingly increased as well, as the trailer shows his dreams being a key motivation for the journey that players will undertake in the second game.
A Plague Tale: Requiem will release on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on October 18, 2022.
